Google Drive Now Offers a Complete JavaScript API

There's a big battle between cloud storage providers which target regular users. Dropbox is winning, but Google and Microsoft have solid offerings as well, not to mention all the other competitors.

Yet, ultimately, this is just the first battle, once people start using the cloud to store and sync files they'll realize they can do so much more.

This is where a third-party ecosystem comes in. Dropbox has the lead in this department as well, courtesy of being the biggest such service, but everyone is offering a solid set of APIs or they should.

Google knows this and the Google Drive API, which builds on the Google Docs API, provides access to pretty much all of the functionality of the service.

Now, Google is expanding this with a pure JavaScript API that enables full control of the service. Developers have access to uploading files, downloading files, tracking changes, listing files, managing revisions and everything in between.

Google's hope is to enable web app developers as much freedom as they need, in essence, anyone can build their own Drive web client if they wanted, or, more likely, add any type of Drive file management to their apps.
