Google Buys 1,000 Boxes of Monopoly "Alan Turing Edition" and You Can Do It Too

Alan Turing, who laid the foundation of modern computing, not to mention help win the war against the Nazis, has been getting the recognition he well deserves lately.

For his birthday, Google ran an interactive doodle, a "computer" constructed on Turing's theories.

Now a special version of the classic game Monopoly both celebrates the mathematician's life and helps plans to restore the Bletchley Park site where the first computers based on his designs were created and where UK's codebreakers resided during World War 2.

Monopoly may sound like a strange choice, but he was actually a fan of the game and even built a custom version of it with locations from around Cambridge and a couple of new rules and additions.

A copy of the hand-drawn board Turing created is included with Monopoly – Alan Turing Edition. Sales of the game go towards the restoration process. Google has already bought 1,000 pieces of the game.
