F1 2012 Drops Grand Prix Mode, Replaces It with Quick Race

Video game developer Codemasters has announced that the Grand Prix Mode is no longer featured in the upcoming F1 2012 and gamers are now only able to experience the entire championship if they get into the Career mode of the new game.

The Grand Prix mode was well loved by the community of racing fans because it allowed them to re-create a past season using a licensed real-world pilot, which gave them a chance to re-write real history in their virtual world.

A representative from Codemasters has stated, “In previous games you could create your own F1 season in the Grand Prix mode so you could, if you so wished, recreate a season and play as an official F1 driver. The Grand Prix option has been replaced with Quick Race this year so you can jump into a one off race much easier, but you cannot create a series of races.”

He added, “The championship is now solely part of the career (up to five years) where you create your own driver and move between teams – the teams available to you at the start of your career are dictated by the difficulty level.”

F1 2012 aims to compensate for the lack of Grand Prix mode by introducing a new Young Driver Test mode, which is designed to organically teach new players how to handle a Formula 1 vehicle, and a Season Challenge, which focuses on smaller driver-based tests that will unsettle even the most seasoned drivers.

The F1 simulation series from Codemasters uses real-world racing circuits, cars, teams and drivers and allows each player to create his own pilot and then compete with the best over a five-year period.

F1 2012 is set to be launched on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the PC on September 21.
