Download Tweetbot 0.8.0 OS X Beta

Because of Twitter’s recent API policy change, Tweetbot development on the Mac has received a bit of a blow. Now Tapbots has released a beta, signaling that only those who have tested the alpha can use it.

Tweetbot for Mac beta is now accessible to users who authorized an account with the alpha version of the popular Twitter client, still in development for the desktop environment.

Tapbots explains that a lot of their alpha testers worried about what’s going to happen when the alpha got retracted.

“A few folks have suggested that we release a new version but without the ability to add any new accounts, we thought it was a good idea and have done that,” the team writes.

Offering a handy download link for the Tweetbot for Mac Beta, Tapbots asks fans to note that “with this build you can’t add or reauthorize any accounts.”

“If you delete an account or de-authorize an existing account you will not be able to add it again until the final version comes out,” the company clarifies.

“If you try to add a new account or launch the app with no accounts created you are going to end up right here on this page,” it adds.

Tweetbot for Mac 0.8.0 beta also arrives with a bunch of fixes, and adds the ability to paste images into the new tweet window again. It can copy tweets on timeline and can do ‘open in new column.’

What else? Multi-column swiping and keyboard support is said to be “much improved.” Testers are instructed to use tab shift/tab to move between columns to achieve the desired results.

The beta comes with better keyboard support (“status detail + many other views”), and a profile view update that enables users to scroll information to see more tweets.

Other enhancements include: “drag and drop tweets has been improved; gap loading works properly now; context click on tweet action buttons in timeline.”
