Developer Says Dead Space 3 Is the First AAAA Video Game

One of the leading developers working on the upcoming Dead Space 3 believes that the quality level of the game is so high that the industry might need to invent a new level beyond AAA in order to accommodate the experience that Visceral Games is developing.

Steve Papoutsis, who is one of the executive producers working on Dead Space 3, has told CVG that, “We want to excel. We want to deliver a game that’s quad-A, that’s beyond what we’ve done before.”

He added, “A lot of people say ‘triple-A’ and that’s kind of become the norm, with all the ‘big triple-A games’ yadda yadda. No. We want to go beyond triple-A. We want to push to the next level. We’ve taken up just saying ‘quad-A’ all day.”

The video game industry usually uses the AAA term in order to refer to the best-funded titles and the fact that Visceral would like to have a new AAAA level for Dead Space 3 speaks about the quality level that the team is aiming for.

Steve Papoutsis also offered some information about why the action of the new game took place on Tau Volantis, the ice planet that was shown in trailers and screenshots, saying that it was the only place where the narrative of the new game could take place.

The story is designed to answer questions that gamers have posted about the Necromorphs and the Dead Space universe since the first game in the series was launched.

Dead Space 3 will be the first game in the series that also features a lot of human enemies and main character Isaac will have to adapt his tactics and his weapon use in order to deal with them.

The game will focus on a cooperative game experience.

Dead Space 3 will be out on the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 in February 2013.
