Chrome App Updates Now Notify Users of Permission Changes

Despite the little attention most people give them, app permissions are quite important. In many cases, you're exposing potentially private or important info to third parties which may or may not be trustworthy.

But the current security and privacy model, just list a bunch of permissions needed and ask for the user to click “accept,” isn't working.

Still, until something better comes along, we're sticking with it. Google is at least trying to improve it, by now notifying users when permissions for an app or extension change.

As apps or extensions are improved, they may sometime require new data or access new APIs that require permission from users.

Now, users are notified that the permissions have changed and are asked to review them or, alternatively, remove the app or extension entirely. Apps are disabled until the user makes a choice. It's an obvious change which probably took too long to implement. Better late than never.
