The team working on the Resident Evil series at publisher Capcom has revealed that it might be ready to work on a High Definition re-launch of Resident Evil 2 as long as enough fans would support the effort.
“If the fans really clamor for it; if there’s a groundswell of support for remaking that game, then I think that’s something Capcom would take under consideration,” he also argues.
Resident Evil 2 is one of the survival horror games that fans of the genre hold in high esteem and offers a type of gameplay that the series is no longer interested in.
Resident Evil 2 was launched in 1998 and the game takes place two months after the titles that launched the series.
The game takes place in Raccon City and sees Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield explore the environments, both on the street and inside buildings, battling mutated enemies and looking for other survivors.
The game has limited ammunition for the characters to use and limited save points and sits firmly within the survival horror genre, with constant scares and characters that feel underpowered compared to the challenges they face.
The Resident Evil has since moved away from the survival horror mechanics in order to appeal to a wider audience.
Resident Evil 6 will be launched on the Xbox 360 and on the PlayStation 3 on October 2 in North America and Europe, with Japanese players having to wait two more days before playing it.
A PC version of the game is also being developed, but until now Capcom has not revealed when it might be available.
