Apple Praised for Equipping New iPods with Bluetooth 4.0

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group and ABI Research are lauding Apple’s decision to implement the Bluetooth 4.0 specification in all of their latest devices, including the iPhone 5, the fifth-generation iPod touch, and the seventh-generation iPod nano.

Bluetooth 4.0 is said to supply an easy and reliable connection that enables Apple’s new devices to communicate with more than seven billion Bluetooth-ready devices already out there. And securely too.

Suke Jawanda, CMO, Bluetooth Special Interest Group, thinks “Bluetooth v4.0 is the only wireless technology available today that provides low energy consumption, security, performance and the massive installed base manufacturers need to create, innovate and enhance the usability of their products.

Jawanda also remarked that “Apple knows it – in today’s keynote the company called out Bluetooth technology as one of the biggest requests for the iPod nano. Our 16,500 member companies also know it.”

“To make the wireless connectivity of your product better, the clear and obvious choice is to use Bluetooth,” said Jawanda.

Thanks to the Bluetooth 4.0 implementation in the iPhone 5, iPod touch and iPod nano, customers will be able to stream high fidelity music to speakers and even to their earphones. This has been one of the most burning demands from the iPod fanbase, according to ABI Research.

The technology also facilitates connecting the devices to thousands of new ultra power-efficient Bluetooth Smart products like training shoes, heart rate monitors, watches, etc.

According to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, no other wireless technology can rival Bluetooth 4.0 in convenience, ubiquity and performance.

Peter Cooney, wireless connectivity practice director at ABI Research, remarked, “Adoption rates of Bluetooth v4.0 are rapidly increasing in the smartphone, laptop, and tablet markets, creating hundreds of millions of Bluetooth Smart Ready hubs.”

Cooney suggested that Apple was starting a revolution, naming other products that support the standard, including the iPhone 4S, iPad 3, Mac mini, Macbook Pro and MacBook Air.

“It has increased its Bluetooth Smart Ready Hub portfolio with its iPhone 5 and new iPod devices, further showing its commitment to the technology. This will be a major boost to Bluetooth Smart market growth over the coming years,” said the expert in wireless technology.
